Applied research that benefits society and industry is the key to the success of Fraunhofer model as one of the major drivers of Germany’s innovation systems. Brazil’s National Service for Industrial Training (SENAI) is using the CCIS’ assistance in implementing a large scale long-term umbrella project to bring Fraunhofer model to Brazil, the world’s fastest growing economy. Over the next seven years, the CCIS will assist in strategic business planning for 26 applied research institutes in Brazil across all federal states; develop a business model for SENAI headquarters to support the management of the national network of innovation institutes; and elaborate an evaluation system to analyze and facilitate the successful ramp-up and implementation of research institutions’ business plans. Brazilian partners benefit from the expert support in applying the time-tested and highly successful Fraunhofer model of applied research to the local conditions. Multiple trainings and capacity building activities enable Brazil partners to extend the benefits of the project to further research establishments across the country.
