That requires strengthening the main backbone of Indonesian economy \u2013 the SME sector \u2013 despite the lack of adequate infrastructure and poor investment climate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) from 2000 &#8211; 2004, the long-term project &#8222;PERISKOP &#8211; Evaluation of the Science, Research and Technology to strengthen the SMEs\u201d has conducted a number of market demand studies with the goal to improve the competitiveness of Indonesian products on international and domestic markets. <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">These studies laid ground for targeted innovation and technology policies that facilitate transfer of R&amp;D results between research institutions and SMEs in the country and spurge high-end entrepreneurship.
